Saurus – Partnership enables nationwide servicing of rescue vehicles

Saurus, a Finnish expert manufacturer of fire engines and rescue vehicles, has partnered with Millog for several years. Saurus has been Millog’s subcontractor for the maintenance of the Finnish Defence Forces’ rescue vehicles, and Millog has now become a part of Saurus’s service network. With both organisations subcontracting for each other, the partnership improves the standard of service provided to customers.

Saurus’s fire engines and rescue vehicles are a familiar sight for all Finns. Saurus is widely trusted, which helps to make it the market leader in Finland. Saurus’s competitiveness is based on its comprehensive customer service and reliable fleet of vehicles. Millog’s service providers in Tervola, Lievestuore, Vekaranjärvi and Säkylä now take care of Saurus’s warranty repairs for the most typical faults in rescue vehicles. The arrangement reduces lead times on the repairs and makes it easier to find a service provider anywhere in Finland.

“The biggest benefit of this new service is closer proximity to our customers. We now have a service network that genuinely covers the whole of Finland.”

Training and parts kits for Millog

Saurus has been training Millog’s mechanics to repair the most common faults in rescue vehicles since the autumn of 2019. Parts kits have been pre-assembled for each case and distributed to Millog’s workshops. The arrangement also speeds up the servicing of the Finnish Defence Forces’ rescue vehicles, as the mechanics now have a better understanding of the most typical faults.

“Security of supply is important to both us and Millog, and we are constantly working to improve it. Our new partnership agreement covers fire and rescue departments as well as industrial sites that have their own fire brigades. What we need to focus on now is making this opportunity more widely known so that our customers know to take advantage of the service”, Hokkanen says.

Mobile repair patrols in the pipeline

Saurus and Millog have come a long way together. The partners have pooled their resources and made strategic investments in the security of supply and local labour. Systematic efforts to improve the reliability of rescue vehicles have yielded a number of innovative ideas.

“We have thought about introducing mobile repair patrols. By combining our procedures with Millog’s procedures, we can deliver an increasingly high standard of service to our customers. What I particularly appreciate in our partnership is continuity. We are always brainstorming for ways to make Finland an even better and safer place to live”, Hokkanen says.
