Further collaboration of Millog and VTT in NATO DIANA

In Millog’s testing environments, technologies can be evaluated against defence requirements in physical and digital environments that simulate genuine operational environments.

Millog and VTT are set to start collaborating in Finland’s NATO DIANA test centre efforts that support the development of technologies suitable for dual use.

Millog and VTT strenghten their collaboration. Millog will complement VTT’s services at the DIANA test centre focusing on secure connections, space technologies and quantum technologies by offering their special expertise in testing, evaluation and development environments. The collaboration will make it possible to offer companies even more versatile opportunities to develop solutions while ensuring that those solutions work in demanding and secure circumstances.

“With VTT, we will be supporting the development of solutions that improve safety in Finland and for our allies. This testing collaboration is a natural extension of our past cooperation in supporting defence RDI in Finland and internationally. Millog’s testing and validation services will be an excellent complement to VTT’s NATO DIANA test centre and create an even more robust and extensive testing ecosystem”, says Toni Piispa, Vice President of the Authorities and Industry business unit at Millog.

The aim is to facilitate the agile development of new capabilities for the Finnish Defence Forces and their allies.

Mikko Salomaa, Vice President of Defence at VTT

“VTT brings together multidisciplinary research expertise, high-quality research environments and an extensive collaborative network that allows companies to develop and validate their solutions for demanding use cases. Thanks to this collaboration with Millog, the capabilities of the NATO DIANA test centre are further reinforced to support the development of this centre of expertise in Finland and companies’ international competitiveness. The aim is to facilitate the agile development of new capabilities for the Finnish Defence Forces and their allies in line with Nato innovation operations and principles of rapid deployment”, says Mikko Salomaa, Vice President of Defence at VTT.

VTT is participating in the NATO DIANA (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic) network with two test centres and one business accelerator. VTT contributes to the DIANA test centre network by offering testing environments for 6G, quantum technologies, space technologies and secure data transfer, which allows businesses to develop and validate new technologies for civilian and defence use. In addition, the DIANA accelerator led by VTT supports companies that develop dual use technologies and helps them access the defence market.

In Millog’s testing environments, technologies can be evaluated against defence requirements in physical and digital environments that simulate genuine operational environments. The possibility for field testing is a particular reinforcement for the NATO DIANA Test, Evaluation, Validation and Verification (TEVV) testing.

This collaboration builds on Millog’s and VTT’s cooperation agreement signed at the end of last year, which aims to advance innovation in the defence sector.
